Some of you may remember us measuring Owen and his diapers for the first few days after he was born as a part of a study. This study has now been published.
Owen at a much higher weight than when he was born.
We were driving to Morgan’s Grant this afternoon to pick up a new stroller (the old one has completely fallen apart) when we realized that it was still lightish out at 5:30 PM. I said how happy I am that it’s lighter. Owen corrected me; “It’s getting darker out, mommy!” which it was because the night had slowly fallen.
Daddy: How was school?
Trevor: Really good! My brain is soooo full! I can’t learn another thing!
D: Well, what did you learn?
T: How long dinosaurs live and how long humans live, and how big
Canada is, and how big the World is! The World has to be really big to
fit Canada in it!
T: And the library was really cold, I think they didn’t put the heat on
D: Oh, was it library day today?
T: Yes and I looked for my book in my school bag and it wasn’t there..
Daddy, you really need to look at my calendar more often.
D: muh…
Owen hit the parody stage. For example, if he is standing up on a chair and we tell him “sit down Owen”, he will sit down, squish his face and in his best death metal vocals say “Sit down mommy!”. Then he giggles.
Markus is still in the super cuddly stage. He giggles too.
We went to physio for his left torticollis and he has some exercises we have to do. I hope he improves soon.
This is one of those winters when it just is not cold enough for the ice to be always good. However we managed to get out and twice it has been just perfect.
Owen does not stay in skates for very long, but the 15 minutes that he is in them, he is fantastic. He can hold on to the skater tutor and be nudged forward a bit. He can even stand without holding on to anything for a little while. He is not yet comfortable enough to make steps, but he does try when being held.
Trevor has been bringing home homework. He does not seem too enthused about it, but has been doing it anyway.
I love Trev’s hair. A good mom would have taken him to the barber over a month ago, but not me. I am sure I will hear about it when he gets older. In the mean time, isn’t his hair neat (as in cool and interesting, not tidy)?
Lucky for me I have more than one crazy looking kid:
Trevor went on the ice with the Ottawa 67s today, thanks to the Booster Club. He Had a huge smile on his face the entire time. A huge hat-tip to Ryan Van Stralen, who raced with him around the rink several times. On top of everything else, they picked Trevor’s name out of the hat to win a stick signed by the team. It’s Cody Ceci’s, and it is taller than me. Fortunately it is:
A: broken, and
B: a right-hand shot,
otherwise he wanted to use it as his usual stick. . I guess that’s OK. We are in the process of reading The Magic Hockey Stick to death, and that’s what happens there…
If you can’t see Trevor, he is right at the front with Petr Mrazek, obviously.
Today was a really nice day. To start, Markus slept for nine hours giving me enough sleep to be not only functional but happy. We had a nice breakfast and went to the Children’s Museum. I had let the membership there expire because whenever we go it is really busy. We discussed it a bit and realized that if we don’t go on Saturdays it is not too bad. We ended up renewing the membership but keeping in mind to only go there during the week or on Sundays.
Trevor must have played whit the ship crane for an hour. He was bossing other kids around but he only got in trouble with an adult once.
Owen was running around and having fun and Markus was snoozing. Once we started getting hungry we contemplated going home but decided to have a snack at the museum restaurant. Now, museum restaurants are notorious for having crummy food but we decided to go for it anyway. The boys loved their grilled cheese sandwiches and decided that they wanted to stay at the museum. Then they made it through the exhibits on religions and arctic expeditions and through the floor with buildings and boats in very good mood.
Markus eventually woke up, had a bit of milk and them looked on from his stroller and smiled whenever we looked at him. He continued to smile and laugh until I put him to bed. What a lovely day!
Trevor made this layout pretty much by himself. It is quite an accomplishment as the pieces don’t really lend themselves to angles that you think they should so making a full loop can be somewhat difficult. Also, there are no unreachable branches which is music to the ears of any math enthusiast. Owen helped make the Megablocks castle. Trev is still going crazy about trains. He got a new stack of books about trains from the library and is closely examining them.
Owen is getting the most out of nona’s visit. He is still insisting on wearing the pig “angry bird” socks on his hands. He is a bit more sensitive than usual, insists on being carried when outside and does’t eat very much, so we think that he is teething.
Markus can now turn to his side from the back. He has spent the day cooing and snuggling with me. He can sleep for eight or nine hour chunks, but does not do so every night. If he does sleep uninterrupted during the night he tends to be awake the entire day.
There has been a lot going on at our place. Markus continues to grow and mature. He is now three months old and tends to be awake through the whole day. He sleeps well at night, about six or seven hour stretches followed by a few more hours to get to the morning.
Markus is starting to be more demanding and I have to hold him most of the time he is awake. He likes stroller walks though so we can make it through the day.
Owen is for all intents and purposes talking. He has taken to baths every day and he is still not eating anything other than milk and cookies.
He has some funny expressions such as “abis” for letters. Apart from this for most of the concepts he is using correct words. Sometimes he mixes languages and my eyes are referred to as Mommy’s ochis. He sometimes repeats random words we say and he repeats English and Croatian equally. Owen is supper huggy and never misses a chance to give a kiss.
Trevor has completed his first semester of Kindergarten. He has also completed his first successful (as in no tears) session of hockey. When we were leaving the Kindergarten Christmas party his teacher told him that he can now spend the winter break thinking only about trains and that is pretty much what he has been doing since.
Trevor: I don’t like it when Owen breaks my stuff! That isn’t very nice! But
it is nice when he hugs me an kisses me! But overall I think he is
naughty and should end up on santa’s naughty list actually!
