About half way…

Which means that I still have a lot of work to do before my GA is presentable.

TSP

I am working on the Traveling Salesman Problem as a Genetic Algorithm. So far I got the basis, but the touch ups and UI will take most of the work. I took today off from work and got a lot done. The problem is that we’re quite busy at work so I get home exhausted. Most of the time I am in no mood to do anything, particularly not tax my head any more than it already is.

On the other hand, this is a very interesting course and I will be really upset if I don’t do well in it. So on with the slog.

Which Fantasy/SciFi Character Are You?

Jean-Luc Picard

An accomplished diplomat who can virtually do no wrong, you sometimes know it is best to rely on the council of others while holding the reins.

There are some words which I have known since I was a schoolboy. “With the first link, the chain is forged. The first speech censored, the first thought forbidden, the first freedom denied, chains us all irrevocably.” These words were uttered by Judge Aaron Satie — as a wisdom, and warning. The first time any man’s freedom is trodden on, we’re all damaged.

Jean-Luc is a character in the Star Trek universe. This The Next Generation fan site has an outline of his career.

BTW: Chris got to be Wesley

Assorted Pictures

As requested by family geographically distant from Ottawa, here are a few pictures from the new house.

Unlocking the door
Here is a picture of me just after we received the keys to the house.

Air BBQ
And here is another one with Chris practicing the l33t BBQ skillz for the party.

Speaking of the housewarming party, here is the link to our flickr event set. And here is John’s set.

And just in case you missed any pictures before or in-between, here is the link to all of our ficker photos.

I think this is it about the house for now. In next blog entry I plan to talk about genetic algorithms.

Livin’ with the boxes

We’re in! All of our many stuffs have been moved (Thanks to everyone who helped us move, you’re the best!), fast internet connection has been established, kitchen has been set up, new washer and dryer are cooling it in the basement, the house has been housewarmed (it was great seeing everyone, I hope all had a good time since I certainly did!).

We got to meet the neighbours and they are really nice. There is a lot of unpacking to be done, but that will be done in its own good time. I am still getting used to the new house, but so far I am quite happy with it.

I leave you with a picture of our first house guest.
Our first house guest
I guess the little bunny decided that with the dog and the cat gone, he can have the pool all to himself.

I will try and post a few pictures from the housewarming once Chris decides whether to delete old pictures from flickr or pay for more storage space. I also hope John will post his pictures soon since he took quite a lot.

Ready…Set…

We’re all ready for Monday. Yesterday we went to EQ3 and picked out the living room furniture. We just have to do the window treatments and ta-da.

In the mean time, I started my class and so far it seems very interesting. It’s about Evolutionary Computation and AI. I was a bit dismayed with the last AI related course I took, and this one seems to have similar elements (only two assignments, no exam…) but let’s hope I’ll like it better.

Happy B-day Bloggy!

Well, what do you know! It has been a year since I’ve started my blog. To commemorate this occasion, I’ve upgraded the blog software and picked a new background theme. Hope you enjoy it.

So what’s new in the life of Chris and Boj you wonder? We’ve been busy preparing for the move. About 70% of our belongings have been packed and prepared for the move. I am currently going through the kitchen. Man, do I ever have a lot of teacups. Only four of these fit my cup requirements and I will use about 3 more in a pinch.

We went to the goodbye house party for Di and Scott (people who sold us the house) and met our new neighbours. They are very sweet. A good number of them are the original owners that moved here in the 60s.

We’ve also been looking for a mailbox. The ones sold at Canadian Tire or Home Hardware are not up to snuff, and the only other places that have these are antique shops where they go for 200$ and up. Chris has a few other ideas as to where we might find mailboxes for sale, but he’s not telling me.
